PODCAST: Kathleen Maher-award winning author, and my connection to greatness – is at it again!

Widespread panic. Scarce supplies. People at their worst. And their best.

You thought I was talking about this week’s news?

Nope. But wait’ll you hear this conversation with Civil war historian, award winning author, (oh, and my sister, did I mention that?) Kathleen L. Maher.

It’s pretty timely.

It’s all about her latest release, a novella that combines Civil War History with (wait for it, just in time for St. Patty’s Day) Irish History and (wait for it) my own family history.
A veritable trifecta!

And you know what they say about history; it has a way of repeating itself, at least in terms of overarching themes. Like facing uncertain times. Facing our own fears. And biases. Even outright prejudices. And having the opportunity to learn from it, over and over again if necessary. And it usually is necessary.

As long as we’re repeating ourselves, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: When you have a connection to greatness, however tertiary, you must milk it for all its worth (you can quote me on that). Because I’m milking this connection, baby, you betcha.
I’m no fool.

So while I’m milking, you should listen. You’ll learn things. Important things, like Irish history and the human condition in general. “Did you know?” type stuff… Challenging stuff. Encouraging stuff. Life changing stuff. You know, stuff like that there.

And if that weren’t enough, she’s got contests GALORE! Lots-o-chances to win FABULOUS prizes, like free books, Irish goodies, and a $50 Amazon Gift card!

Here’s a little note from Kathleen L. Maher herself, with the downlow on that:

And… just for good measure, seeing how it’s St. Paddy’s day and all, and we’re celebrating our connections to Irish greatness and all… here’s a few family pics ferya (to be read in your best brogue, please).

My mother’s maternal grandmother, Katherine Meeghan, on whom Bachelor Buttons is based.
The poofy sleeves alone make me swell with pride to be descended from her.
Service record of my mother’s paternal grandfather, who was in the fighting 69th! He was at the (or at least in close proximity to the) signing of the Appomattox and everything!
I told you, I’m not messing around here.

  1. Wow, when we recorded this we never imagined it would be our grocery stores being emptied of bread and toilet paper and necessities, or our modern enlightened world in an uproar. May we have the grease to put our neighbors first. Thank you Nancy
